Definition:
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is a disease that is caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). HIV weakens the immune system, which makes an individual more susceptible to cancer, infections and other communicable diseases and colds. AIDS is transmitted by unprotected sex, sharing needles and by breast milk. There is no cure for AIDS, however there are many medications that help those infected to manage their condition.
