Oscar Pistorius Held for Questioning in the Murder of his Girlfriend

According to the Associated Press and Reuters, paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius (a.k.a. 'Blade Runner'), who was the first double amputee to compete in the Olympic Games, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp. Ms. Steenkamp was shot inside his South African home this morning. There are no other suspects in the shooting. It is believed that Mr. Pistorius thought his girlfriend was an intruder, and it was an accidental shooting. Paramedics on the scene were unable to revive Ms. Steenkamp.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Denise Beukes stated that they would oppose Pistorius' application for bail because there had been previous incidents at his home.
